The BEST haunted house (as far as fear factor goes) I saw, was when we took our first (and at that time) only son trick or treating in Toluca Lake, CA. Before the Northridge Quake destroyed our apartment, that's where we lived.
Toluca Lake is a little pocket of Studio City and lots of actors and studio FX people live there. One guy had a house and an outfit that was
obviously done up using studio makeup etc.. and the effects were awesome!! The main guy gave me the creeps(not an easy thing to do) plus the lights and screaming death wail didn't hurt any coming through these really killer speakers, to make the whole thing work like a charm.
I told my wife "Turn the boy around!!!" Crap, I did not want my 3 and 1/2 year old seeing this!!!
He would have had night terrors for feckin' months!
On the lighter side we did get to trick or treat through the rest of the neighborhood and my son got candy from Henry Winkler aka "The Fonz".
